Laghetto del Frassino

Peschiera del Garda VR - 37019

The "laghetto del Frassino" is a small jewel in Peschiera. It is a lake of glacial origin and its surface area is around 80 hectares, 770 m long and 380 m wide.

Since 2017, it has become part of the UNESCO World Heritage for Prehistoric Pile-Dwelling Sites that populated it over the centuries. It is also marked as a FAI property, the Italian environmental fund, and has been declared a Protected Natural Oasis since 1996 for its floristic and faunal peculiarities.

The pont, is now home to:

  • at least 160 bird species of which around 40 are breeding birds. These include the purple heron and grey heron, but also birds of prey such as the marsh harrier. But it is above all a safe place for diving ducks in the winter months, in particular the pochard and the ferruginous duck.
  • a rich marsh flora, but also a rare lowland forest with ancient poplars and willows.
  • amphibians including the endangered and threatened Lataste Frog
  • reptiles

Walking along the path around the pond takes approximately 15 minutes, during which you can relax in this beautiful oasis while having a picnic, or go birdwatching in the two wooden huts along the way.

The pond can be reached on foot from the centre of Peschiera.
