An Experience of History, Nature, and Tradition in Prun di Negrar
The experience begins with a meeting point at the parking area on Via Vallecchia, where we will be welcomed by the volunteers of the association. From there, we will observe the dovecote tower of Vallecchia before continuing to Contrada Piazzo, a historic courtyard built in local stone — a typical example of the region’s traditional architecture.
In this charming setting, a simple and authentic breakfast will be offered, featuring the traditional scalpellino (stonemason’s) cake served with coffee or tea. (No food alternatives are provided.)
Next, we will take a short walk along an unpaved road, surrounded by the rolling hills, to reach the ancient Preare quarries.
During the visit, historical and geological insights about the Prun stone will be shared. Participants will learn about the traditional underground extraction techniques and see the original tools used. The visit will conclude with the screening of a short film featuring historical photographs that portray the life and work in the quarry.
