The Fossil Museum of Roncà is an unmissable point of interest in our land.
The visit of the Museum is a real jump into the past, at about 40 million years ago when Roncà was the seabed of a tropical sea. Thanks to the continuous eruptions of the volcanic complex of Monte Calvarina, the fauna and flora of the Eocene are now visible in fossilized form.
Inside the rooms of the Museum you can see minerals, shells, oysters, coral, also a head of a crocodile and the majestic Prototherium: an ancient relative of Dugongs that still live today in the tropical seas. The Museum is not only a structure but also a meeting point for experts, lovers and an interesting resource for students and kids.
That’s why, in according with the association Val Nera, people can hike on the Nature Trail, visit the fossiliferous deposits in Roncà and admire the charming environment and landscape between forests and waterfalls.
