Designed in 1908, the fort was completed in 1912, but it quickly became obsolete due to advancements in weaponry at the time, much like the other forts in Mestre. Never involved in any military conflicts, it was used as an ammunition and weapon storage site after 1915.
Today, Forte Poerio is owned by the Municipality of Mira. Access to the interior of the building is prohibited, but the surrounding park is open to the public, recently upgraded with new urban furniture. The park includes playgrounds for children, a picnic area with tables and barbecues, and a space for events.
