Church dating back to the 12th century and transformed into a cathedral starting from 1998. The building has been damaged and rebuilt several times, in fact today it is considerably different from the original, while still maintaining the late Romanesque style that has characterized it since its construction.
For the rebuilding, marbles, stones, and columns recovered from the area of the monastery of San Ilario were used. It was customary to use the church as a cemetery, and in the cathedral, some inscriptions on flooring slabs are still visible to commemorate the deceased, mainly members of brotherhoods and some priests.
