Villa dei Leoni, overlooking the Naviglio del Brenta in Mira, was built in 1558 on the commission of Francesco Contarini, procurator of San Marco. In addition to the Villa, the complex comprises the barchessa, now used as a theatre, the oratory and a large garden.
In 1745, the building was then owned by the Pisani family, who commissioned Giambattista Tiepolo to paint a cycle of frescoes to embellish the villa's entrance hall. Unfortunately, Tiepolo's cycle of frescoes was sold to the French collectors Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart, and in 1893 it was torn up and transported to Paris. But today, exceptionally, thanks to the work of the municipal administration, the splendid cycle of frescoes by Tiepolo, returned to the villa in 2018, can once again be admired: thanks to an agreement between the Municipal Administration, the Institut de France and the Jacquemart-André Museum in Paris, and with the authorisation of the Superintendence, the frescoes have reappeared using a technique based on the digital transfer of the image onto a material surface, patented by a company from Padua.
A tour through augmented reality for the enhancement of the municipal area and the 16th-century Villa dei Leoni. Augmented reality is the enrichment of sensory perception with additional information not detectable through direct observation. Visitors will learn about the history and environment of the municipal area, the first landlord, Federigo Contarini, who had the Villa built in 1557 as his residence. The highlight of the visit is the Augmented Reality pictorial analysis of the copy of the great fresco by Giambattista Tiepolo.
