Statue of Juliet

via Cappello, 23 , Verona - 37121

Juliet Capulet is the heroine of Shakespeare’s tragedy. According to the legend, she fell in love with the young Romeo Montecchi in the city of Verona, during the 14th century.

Created in 2014, this sculpture is a copy of the one made by Nereo Costantini in 1968: his work was cast in bronze thanks to the financial support by the Verona Lions Club and was initially placed in “palazzo Forti”, then in the courtyard of Juliet’s House. Costantini was inspired by the statue of “Madonna Verona” in piazza Erbe (14th century). The final outcome is a mix between the elegance of the Roman art and the ideal sweetness of the Della Scala adies. Juliet is kept in good condition even if it is touched by  huge number of tourists every day. Other copies are held in any cities round the world, such as Munich, San Francisco, Chicago and Bangkok.
