The Rifugio Galassi, a rare example in the Dolomites, has been managed since 1970 through the totally free work of volunteers from the Mestre Section of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club), who take turns in weekly shifts to guarantee all the services that the complex structure is able to offer, on a par with professional management.
The Refuge is located below the Forcella Piccola dell'Antelao, at an altitude of 2018, squeezed between the Antelao massif to the south and the Scotter peak (Marmarole) to the north, and is a stage point of the Alte Vie n.4 di Grohmann and n.5 di Tiziano.
The Galassi is the support point for all the main ascents to Antelao, a peak inhabited by hikers, mountaineers and ski mountaineers.
Overnight stay in a shared room. It includes overnight stays in rooms of 4, 8, 10 or 16 beds depending on availability. It is compulsory to bring your own sleeping bag.
It is compulsory to make a reservation for the overnight stay.
The Rifugio Galassi can be reached both from the south-east, from the town of Calalzo di Cadore, and from the north-west, from San Vito di Cadore, towns located in the Centro Cadore Valley, the second in the Val Del Boite, which surround the Antelao massif in a U-shape. So it is possible to reach it from two geographically opposite points, with two different itineraries but both with a difference in altitude of around 600 m, calculated from the car parks, one above San Vito, at the Scotter Refuge, the other at the bottom of the Val D'Oten, at the Capanna degli Alpini.
