The origin of the name seems to derive from the Latin (miles-militis); in the De Bello Gallico, Caesar writes that he recruited excellent soldiers in the valley of Feltria during his passage north - the mule track, partly paved, that leads from Riva Grassa to Milies is most likely of Roman origin. The village is located in a basin, at an altitude of 680 meters. Milies, a pleasant place for summer vacations, protected by the mountain ridge of Monte Doch-Monte Cesen and open to the Treviso plain, is traversed by the European trail E7, which links Lisbon through Spain and the Pyrenees to the French Riviera and Italy, continuing on to Romania. There are numerous small churches: the one dedicated to Maria Ausiliatrice, a point of pride for the Alpini, the one of Santo Stefano, completely rebuilt after World War II, and the ancient church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio, once the site of a hermitage, which is remembered every year during the “Festa del Romit.” Curious is the Oratory of San Barnaba, called the “céseta del diaolet” - the little church of the devil - because in the altar painting, a little devil is depicted. In May, the “Festa del narciso” is celebrated, a flower that grows lushly in Milies.
