Chiesa Santa Lucia

Chiesa Romanica Santa Lucia di Pol

Via Don Morandini, Santa Lucia , Pescantina - VR - 37026

This small and simple church is located in the heart of the town of Santa Lucia in Pescantina and its so named for the virgin and martyr of Syracuse, Santa Lucia, whose patron feast is celebrated on 13th December.

The church dates back to 1100 AD. It has a single altar in marble with a niche holding a wooden statue of the Saint. Above the altar are four frescoes depicting Sainy Damiano, Saint Antonio Abate, Saint Lucy and the Madonna of Seggiola.

Of greater value are the 14 paintings of the Via Cruxis from 1821, which are among the first examples of colour printing. Beside the church there is the old "camposanto" ("holy field") which was used by the inhabitants of Santa Lucia until 1800.

Beside the church there is the old residence of the custodian too with its entrance hidden by a high wall.
