Inside, the furniture and the tools are the original ones and they are still in use. Along the longitudinal wall there is a display cabinet with lacquered shelves made of light wood; on the shelves are posited the glass vases which contain herbs, essences and products according to the shop’s tradition. The counter presents the same decoration of the shelves and is made of lacquered wood, has a white marble plane, a brass handrail and chased friezes.
A big brass mortar, located in a corner of the shop, testifies to the ancient art of spice crushing and medicinal herbs blending.
Over the years, five generations of the same family have managed the shop and for this reason the Drogheria Emaldi is part of the Botteghe Storiche register both for quality and seniority.
Interesting facts: the shop opened in 1864, outside the walls of Porta Vescovo; in 1882 it moved in its current location inside the city walls, in via San Paolo 6, in order to avoid the excise duties imposed by the Austrians on the goods entering the city.
