The present church was built in the sixteenth century at the behest of the Congregation of the Servants of Mary on the former Sant'Apollinare (of which there are still testimonies in the choir and presbytery).
The most interesting part of the church is certainly the Reliquary, one of the largest in Europe, which contains tens of thousands of relics from all over the world. In the 19th century, it housed the relics of the Jerusalemite saints.
