The experience begins at Porta Vescovo, the historic medieval gate built by the Scaligeri, guardians of Verona’s ancient past. From here, we follow a gently rising paved path leading to the Don Calabria Institute, walking alongside the city’s old defensive walls.
Leaving the pavement behind, we continue on a comfortable gravel path that takes us directly to the walls of Castel San Felice, a Visconti-era fortress offering stunning views. The route continues along a grassy, well-trodden trail, winding through peaceful natural surroundings and opening up to breathtaking panoramic views over the city.
From the castle courtyard (interior not open to visitors), we begin our descent through centuries-old olive trees and ancient stone walls, arriving at the charming Fontana del Ferro, nestled in the heart of San Giovanni in Valle, one of Verona’s oldest and most atmospheric neighborhoods.
The return route follows the Via Crucis, which winds its way through the historic homes of the quarter — a beautiful and meaningful end to a walk that is as much a journey through landscape and history as it is through the very soul of Verona.
