The church, close to Porta Vescovo, has its origins around the year 1000, when it was part of an hospital of the Order of the Hospitallers of Jerusalem, which provided assistance to the knights engaged in the Crusades.
Located along the Via Postumia and a place of passage for pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land, it was dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre and given to the Order of the Knights of Malta.
The present name derives from the burial (behind the altar) of the Veronese saint Toscana in the 14th century. Dedicated to caring for the poor after being widowed, she lived in a church cell until her death.
The church preserves numerous works of artistic workmanship such as the Lamentation over the Dead Christ, by the carver Giovanni Zebellana, and the triptych by Liberale da Verona.
