Natural History Museum

The Civic Museum of Natural History of Verona is located in the prestigious Palazzo Pompei, in Lungadige Porta Vittoria, and hosts various scientific sections dedicated to the study of minerals and rocks, palaeontology and zoology, while the prehistory and botanical sections are housed in the Palazzina Comando of the Austrian Arsenal of Verona.
 
Sixteen exhibition halls, the library, the laboratories, the collections depots and the museum offices are located in the spacious rooms of the building.
The scientific material collected by the researchers of the Museum and by many naturalists, in the course of almost five centuries, is meticulously prepared and cataloged today, before being studied and then conserved in the collections or exhibited in the rooms.
The Museum plays an active and decisive role in scientific research and in the publication of essays and popular texts.
 
Great pride of the museum is undoubtedly represented by the section dedicated to the fossils of Bolca, specimens of over 250 animal species and 200 plants from the Lessini mountains, 50 kilometers from Verona, the spokesman of what was life on Earth 50 million years ago does and how it has evolved.

It is possible to access the monument with small dogs only inside special bags (pet carrier), with medium and large dogs on a leash and equipped with muzzle in the exhibition area, after behavioral evaluation of the dog. Guide dogs for the visually impaired, assistance dogs for the disabled and alert dogs (diabetes, epilepsy, etc.) are always allowed. Dogs are not allowed in the case of guided tours; coffee breaks; set-ups; in the case of special temporary exhibitions that require special maintenance; if female, during the period of estrum and in pregnancy and in case of illness.
