Accademia di Agricoltura Scienze e Lettere

Palazzo Erbisti - Via Leoncino, 6 , Verona - 37121

The Accademia di Agricoltura, Scienze e Lettere (Academy of Agriculture, Science and Letters), which has survived to the present day, was officially founded in 1768, at the behest of the Government of the Serenissima Republic of Venice by a ducal decree, with the aim of definitively reviving the Veronese economy. Immediately after the fall of the Serenissima Republic, and first under Austrian and then French rule, the academy was able to expand, dedicating itself mainly to research, particularly in the field of botanical and zoological taxonomy, by establishing the Natural History Museum of Verona.

Over the centuries it became a very prolific academy, becoming the highest institution in the city. During the Napoleonic era the academies of agriculture were dissolved, but in spite of this it continued its activity expanding its sectors with science and literature.
