The Ciareido refuge was built at an altitude of 1969 meters by the alpine battalions of Feltre, Pieve di Cadore, and Gemona, in anticipation of the First World War as a military shelter and observation post.
Used in the following years as a shelter for hunters and a stable for goats, in the early seventies, thanks to the volunteer work of the town of Lozzo di Cadore and the CAI section of Lozzo, after significant renovations, it was converted into a high-altitude refuge.
The structure overlooks, from the aerial peak of Croda Paradiso, the tranquil pastures of the Pian dei Buoi plateau, renowned for its stunning panoramic location.
The loving family management ensures a typical cuisine, comfortable facilities, and a characteristic fireplace that make the stay worthy of the best valley inns.
Despite its isolated location, it is an important crossroads of routes among the most rewarding in the entire Dolomite region.
Just 20 minutes on foot, there are numerous equipped climbing routes of every degree of difficulty, ideal even for rock courses. It is a stopping point along the Alta Via delle Dolomiti No. 5.
