A capital was originally erected here in honour of Saints Rocco and Sebastian, proclaimed protectors against the plague by the General Council of Cadore in 1483, following the numerous epidemics that occurred in Cadore. In 1617, a small church was erected on the site of the capital, which then became the destination of the pilgrimage that took place annually in memory of the landslide that destroyed part of the village on 5 March 1635. In 1856, following a cholera epidemic, the people of Auronzo vowed to renovate the little church. The task was entrusted to the ubiquitous architect Segusini, who, once again, opted for the neoclassical style, displaying a considerable refinement that was in harmony with the votive character of the little church. The new church was opened for worship on 16 August 1858.
