The bridge is located in the Maglio area and leads to the districts situated south of the Astico stream: Pralunghi, Chiossi and Magan.
It presents itself as a engineering jewel, a masterpiece of construction engineering of the time as it was built with a single arch of reinforced concrete with an arch span of forty meters.
It was rebuilt following the dual destruction of the previous bridge in 1885 and in 1905 due to the flooding of the Astico. The bridge was inaugurated on October 25 1908 with a solemn ceremony and for several years retained the title of the lowest arch bridge.
In 2002 the bridge underwent an innovative restoration that included the consolidation of the side walls, the strengthening of a rigidly elastic structure, and the creation of two side walkways. The bridge over the Astico in Calvene was used as the main prototype for the creation of the Risorgimento bridge over the Tiber in Rome.
