Bust of Benedetto Cairoli

Cortile del Tribunale, 1 , Verona (VR) - 37121

Benedetto Cairoli (Pavia, 28th January 1825 – Capodimonte 8th August 1889) was an Italian patriot and a politician. He was an enthusiastic Garibaldi’s supporter and was very active in the expedition of the Thousands. He also took part in the Third War of Independence, also known as Franco-Prussian War (1866). He was Italian Prime Minister twice, in 1878, and from 1879 to 1881 until he resigned and left politics.

The monument is entirely composed of white marble slab with a niche in which the bust is placed. Its author was the sculptor Pietro Bordini, whose signature is visible in the lower part of the slab and it was inaugurated on 15th May 1890. The monument is in good condition.
