Romeo's house is one of Shakespeare's places of Verona.
Eventhough historians say that this was the home of Cagnolo Nogarola, the massive builduing is known as the house of Romeo.
It is believed that the Montecchi family, which really existed, lived in this borough of Verona, thus this place has been designated to pass on the fascination of Shakespeare's tragic play.
The building which stands near the Arche Scaligere, is a tipical middle age house and it is extremely well preserved. The building cannot be visited inside because it is now a private property and is occupied. The beautiful gothic facade of the 14th century well recalls the romantic William Shakespeare's love story.
On the facade you read an inscription in memory of the two young lovers: "Oh Dov'è Romeo?... Taci, ho perduto me stesso: io non sono quì e non son Romeo, Romeo è altrove" (Act 1, scene 1). " Tut, I have lost myself, I am not here: This is not Romeo, he’s some other where."
