The church of S. Nicolò in Bardolino was built during the 12th century. According to tradition, the building was solemnly consecrated on 15 July 1185 by Pope Lucius III. Originally a chapel subject to the parish of S. Maria in Garda, it was erected as a parish church before 1460. In 1830 the Romanesque church was demolished to make way for the present church, completed in 1844 (but still without the pronaos, added in 1880) and consecrated in 1891. Externally, the building has a Palladian façade facing south-west. Bell gable located above the northern roof pitch, close to the gable. Latin cross plan with a large rectangular hall, transverse transept, presbytery raised by three steps and a large semi-circular choir; at the end of the transept arms are the altar of St. Joseph on the left and the altar of Our Lady of the Rosary on the right.
