Batteria Museo Vettor Pisani

Via Vettor Pisani, 40 , Cavallino-Treporti (VE) - 30013

This fortification was named after the Venetian supreme commander Vettor Pisani, who defeated the Genoese fleet of Pietro Doria in the Chioggia war of June 1380. Built between 1909 and 1912, it was equipped with six 280mm howitzers mounted on as many open platforms with rotating carriages and a 360-degree traverse. They could not be used against the land front on the Lower Piave due to the maximum range limited to 10,700 meters. During the Great War, it was garrisoned by a company of the First Fortress Artillery Regiment of the Royal Army. During World War II, it hosted an anti-aircraft artillery position, and after being decommissioned, it was occupied by civilian families.
