The San Marco Cooperative - Fishermen of Burano is made up of about 90 associates. It specializes in mollusk farming and small-scale coastal fishing, offering its members services such as refrigeration, labeling, freezing, and packaging of the catch. The cooperative manages two sales stands at the Venice Wholesale Fish Market. To diversify the offer and combine local fishing with tourism, the cooperative has developed, in collaboration with the Veneto Region, the activity of fishing tourism.
The main activities carried out by the members include clam farming and free manual harvesting of clams, traditional fishing with trammel nets, and sorting of mole crab, fishing with traps and cuttlefish jigs, fishing for juvenile fish destined for lagoon farming, fishing tourism, and services for the protection of the sea and lagoon.
