Palazzo Pompei

Lungadige Porta Vittoria, 9 , Verona - 37129

Palazzo Pompei, seat of the Natural History Museum, is one of the most important buildings concerning the history and the architecture of the city.

Built in Renaissance style, it was commissioned by the rich family Lavezola between 1530 and 1550, after the plan of the famous architect Michele Sanmicheli.

In 1579 the Palace was bought by the Pompei family and became their stately home for about two centuries.

In 1833, when the family died out, the Palace was donated by its owners to Verona Municipality, in order to host exhibitions, as well as prestigious art and scientific collections of the city.
