Chiesa di San Colombano

It is located on the hill east of the village, on the slope overlooking the Val Tramigna at the borders with the municipality of Cazzano di Tramigna.

In the area, already a site of Roman settlement, on land owned by the Pompei family, there was a small shrine with a fresco of the Madonna depicted on a throne alongside Saint Colombano. In the 14th century, to protect the painting, which was considered miraculous, the current little church was built, which has since always been a place of great devotion and affection for the residents, as next to it was the cemetery for plague victims. Count Lelio Pompei, dictating his last wishes on the battlefield in Belgium in 1638, ordered that the church be rebuilt and that a new altar be constructed around the fresco representing the Madonna, which after being moved with the image of Maria in the early decades of the 19th century by the will of the chaplain Don Bonifacio Sprea, serves as the main altar.

The frescoes on the outside of the church, depicting anatomical parts, indicate the graces received by the faithful. Since 1837, when a cholera epidemic spared the citizens, the vow of thanksgiving made by the inhabitants at that time has been observed, and every year, on the second Sunday of May, a procession is performed that ascends from the village to the hill and then descends to the Sanctuary.
