Area Umida
Via del Borgo , MONSELICE - 35043
The Wetland of Monselice, located on via del Borgo, was created in 2002 by the Adige Euganeo Consortium and spans 6 hectares. Here, many typical plants of wetland areas grow lushly. The oasis attracts waterfowl and wildlife. It is an example of how human works can create places where nature acts as a filter, purifying the environment and providing oxygen for the life of flora and fauna. In this area, during the diversion of the Desturo watercourse carried out in 2001, archaeological excavations uncovered some important finds from the Bronze Age and Paleovenetian period, as well as from the Roman period, confirming that this area was on the banks of a branch of the ancient course of the Adige River. To build the phytodepuration plant for water, part of the water purification project for the reclamation of the Venice Lagoon, this wetland was created in 2002, extending over six hectares. It uses plants to further cleanse the waters that exit the treatment plant and aims to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus, responsible for the increase of algae in the Venice lagoon, while also being capable of breaking down various pollutants. Guided tours are available upon request.
