The exclusivity of the Trecenta area is represented by the "Gorghi," natural cavities that, fed by the springs of an old riverbed of the Po, have created small lakes in an environment particularly rich in vegetation, aquatic plants, and wildlife.
Starting from the city of Rovigo and following via R. Sanzio leading to Sariano, one can admire 6 Gorghi of Trecenta: Gorgo Bottazza (documented since the beginning of the last century) and Gorgo Gàspera, both recently used for fish farming, Gorghi Magòn, Gorgo della Sposa (the largest in the territories of Rovigo and Ferrara, divided into two basins, of which the northern one exceeds a depth of 12 meters: its name comes from a legend that tells the story of a maiden in love with a handsome and poor young man, who meets her death by throwing herself from the carriage that was taking her to marry a wealthy gentleman imposed by her family), Gorgo Zùcolo (the smallest and most degraded) and Gorgo Magherino (located 3.5 km from Ceneselli, it underwent reclamation work between 1609 and 1625 on behalf of Marquis E. Bentivoglio).
The seventh, called Gorgo Malopera, is located in the hamlet of Pissatola.
In 1989, the Gorghi were included by the Veneto Region among protected areas, pursuant to law no. 1497/1939 (excluding Gorgo Magherino, which is currently not subject to restrictions).
