The museum was established in the 1970s thanks to the collaboration between the Forestry Corps and the Cimbrian community that lived in the plateau, serving as an exhibition space for documents, artifacts, and work tools. The venue develops across two floors and offers a comprehensive overview of the history of the plateau starting from the prehistoric period. On the first floor, one section is dedicated to the Serenissima, which derived timber from the forest to build its naval fleet, and another to Cansiglio and its habitat. Meanwhile, the ground floor is dedicated to the presence of the Cimbri in the area; around the 18th century, a small Cimbrian community from the Asiago plateau settled in Cansiglio, building its village in the Vallorch and Campon area, where typical houses are still visible today. The museum displays work tools, photographs, and objects that testify to their presence and history. The museum is open during the summer season. Hours and prices can be found on the organization's website.
