An interesting example of 20th century architecture is the Temple of San Martino, which echoes the very name of the town “Col San Martino” and reflects the intense and widespread devotion to the saint of Tours in the area. The construction of the temple was completed on July 27, 1927, on the site of the oratory that was irreparably damaged in 1918 by bombs from our army.
A curious aspect of the Church of San Martino concerns the urn placed inside the temple, which contains notes with various names of people. Tradition holds that couples who ask San Martino for the grace of having children then commit, upon receiving that grace, to name the newborn after the extracted name. The custom has been documented since May 1743, but its origin is lost in the mists of time, and even today dozens of couples from far and wide visit the temple.
