The province of Belluno offers an infinite number of proposals for easy naturalistic itineraries that can be done even with children.
Along this path, one can admire spectacular examples of chestnut trees: a plant "imported" by the Romans, but which, according to scholars, was present in Europe before the Quaternary glaciations (which ended 10,000 years ago). The glaciations would have progressively reduced the distribution area of the chestnut, confining it to Asia Minor. It would therefore not be a "foreign" plant, but an ancient inhabitant of our woods, "brought back home" by the Romans after the glaciations forced it to seek refuge in warmer areas.
Enclosed between high mountains and perched on a small hill, just a few steps from the path lies Feltre, which for centuries has been the hub of important communication routes. Its historic center constitutes an exciting discovery, surprising to find such a valuable artistic city in an alpine and dolomitic context.
