Faro di Pila

Until the end of World War II, the old Pila Lighthouse, built in 1885 and then demolished by retreating German troops during the last world conflict, was located where the small village of Pila now stands.
Today, the new lighthouse is located 5 kilometers from Pila as a testament to the extension of the Delta in just over 50 years, and has the peculiar characteristic of being the most easterly masonry construction in the delta. The lighthouse is situated on a small islet on the left bank of the Po, accessible only by river, and is a white masonry structure about 45 meters high, featuring a lantern at 47 meters above sea level with a luminous range of about 30 km and is active from sunset to dawn with 3 white flashes every 20 seconds.
On the right, the Lighthouse watches over Scano Boa and the Laguna del Basson, while behind it are the Laguna del Bùrcio and the Island of the Battery. Surrounding it are various small islands, sandy shores, and dense reeds, where winding channels of different shades, depending on their depth, weave through, coloring a landscape that seems painted by an unmatched artist with tones of green and blue. These are ideal habitats for birdlife, which finds peace and refuge here, and herons, egrets, and cormorants can be easily spotted.
