The Benedictine Court of Correzzola is a huge rural complex, the largest in the Veneto region, founded in the 15th century as the operational center of the impressive work of transformation and reclamation of the rural territory of Saccisica initiated by the friars of Santa Giustina of Padua since 1129.
Erected next to the bank of the Bacchiglione River, ideally located for communications with Padua and Chioggia, the grand Court of Correzzola consisted of a series of buildings in which Benedictine monks, artisans, farmers, blacksmiths, etc. lived. There were bread ovens, cellars for distilling brandy, weaving workshops, stables, wells, vegetable gardens, gardens, and a large stable that could hold up to 100 horses.
The Court was the "big factory" of the Benedictine order of Santa Giustina. In the mid-1700s the European agricultural crisis and the plague marked the decay of the structure. Only in the mid-18th century was reclamation resumed and improvements were planned. After the Napoleonic suppression of religious congregations in 1797, the duke of Lodi and his heirs assumed control of the Benedictine site and all the stock found there. At the end of World War I, the Melzi d'Eril Estate of Correzzola was aligned and went into the hands of the citizens of the Municipality of Correzzola.
How to Get There:
By train: the Corte Benedettina is about 4 kilometers from the Pontelongo train stop (Venice-Adria line). Consider the possibility of train + bike interchange.
By car: exit Monselice highway A13, continue along SP5 and SR104 in the direction of Chioggia and then turn towards Correzzola. Coming from the SS309 Romea, deviate along the SR105 towards Cavarzere at Passo della Fogolana and turn right after about 3 kilometers towards Correzzola. Parking available near the site.
Guided tours:
The Benedictine Courts Association, every Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon, is available for free guided tours in the Benedictine Courts. Upon reservation, organizes boat tours along the Bacchiglione River, the Lagoon and Venice. It offers bike rental and escort service with tours at the area, Villas, Casoni and Farms included in the itineraries.
