Villa Soranzo Crotta Bragato Antoni

via Jacopo da Corte, 43 , Piove di Sacco (PD) - 35028

The Villa is privately owned. It opens to the public occasionally.

Built according to the tripartite scheme of Venetian construction, with a passing salon, it underwent, probably in the last century, some modifications, including the addition of an entrance staircase with a loggia that altered the original orientation of the building, creating an access from the right side where at that time the appurtenant park extended.

The elevation facing the Via Provinciale is enriched by a double row of double lancet windows, those on the piano nobile, probably belonging to the original design, and those on the upper floor that may have been added later when the molded tympanum supported by volutes and decorated by an oculus with an inscribed star was built.
One of the elements of originality of the building was built by the basement occupied, not by cellars, but by a squero to which led, coming from the Fiumicello, a short canal that also allowed direct access to the villa by river.
In the passing hall on the ground floor, framed by faux architecture, some scenes echoing hunting can be admired, partly damaged by time and the neglect of the previous owners. Other frescoes, of more valuable workmanship, dating from the 16th century, decorate the first room to the right of the entrance: here a representation of the myth of Diana and Actaeon and, in the overhead, in monochrome, the Abduction of Europa are particularly recognizable.

In the past, the villa was certainly a doge's residence, as evidenced by the stone coat of arms with a rampant lion placed above the side door; moreover, its privileged function, which differentiates it in part from the function of other piovese buildings, must have been to accommodate guests and owners for hunting trips. Indeed, several scenes in the frescoes refer to this theme; moreover, for this very purpose, the building also hosted Victor Emmanuel II, to whom a portrait, now destroyed, was dedicated, decorating the ceiling of the central hall on the main floor.

Just past the bridge that from San Nicolò leads onto the Provinciale per Corte, we find ourselves in front of one of the most beautiful and best-preserved examples of a manor house in Piove di Sacco: Villa Bragato. The clean, cubic structure of the residence, highlighted by the renovation, clearly denounces its 16th-century origin.
