In 1933, Arzergrande had 120 inhabited casoni and, after the law for the abatement of unhealthy places, there were still 29. Until 2004, the village had as many as two inhabited casoni: one collapsed in that year due to a snowfall, while the other was taken into custody by the municipality and, thanks to Ministerial and Provincial funds, in 2008 it was renovated, furnished with the original furniture and stained blue.
The interior walls are formed by latticework and poles then covered with clay. Lime is the main element used for painting; near the blue casone is a small green area, in which the barn was built, with a dirt floor.
3ndy Studio created the design for the new tourist pavilion, which stands in the same area and forms a single receptive complex, open to the public.
The new Pavilion is inspired by the surrounding environment and makes its own the shapes and colors that already exist in nature and have always populated the agricultural area where the casoni stood.
The casone is accessible every Sunday from April to October, from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Casone Azzurro is located along the link between the suburbs of Piove di Sacco and Arzergrande. It is a lively focal point for locals as it hosts numerous events and picnics on weekends during peak season.
