The complex is a sixteenth-century noble building that was designed by Niccolò Crepadoni uniting a series of pre-existening buildings, of which the turret perhaps preserve the plant of one of the ancient towers, that surpassed the city walls.
Remains of the original frescoes can still be seen on the ground floor and first floor. Below the porch of the courtyard since 1981 has been placed the third century Roman sarcophagus of Flavio Ostillo Sertoriano and his wife Domitia. It was found in 1480 digging the foundations of the bell tower of S.Stefano, already raised in columns in the cathedral square, between the cathedral and the town hall, and then next to the church of S.Stefano.
The Crepadona is the base of the Library and the cultural city center.
