This façade of the Palace was given its present form from the year 1424 onwards, echoing the stylistic forms and decorative motifs of the more ancient façade overlooking the quay.
The Porta della Carta entrance (1438-1442), a monumental Gothic work by Giovanni and Bartolomeo Bon, is on the far left side of the building.
The Doge's Palace, the seat of the Doge and the government of the Republic of Venice for over a thousand years, represents a complete synthesis of Venetian civilisation from a cultural, artistic, military, political and economic point of view. Public access is through the Porta del Frumento entrance, on the side facing the quay.
