Born in the 19th century as a covered space intended for the trade of food products, the square takes its name from the term “annonario,” which referred to everything related to the supply of essential goods for the population.
The structure presents itself as a small urban courtyard, bordered on three sides by porticoed buildings with terracotta arches, reminiscent of the architecture of covered markets from the 1800s. The intimate atmosphere and architectural harmony make this place particularly appreciated by both locals and visitors. In the past, the area housed shops, vegetable stalls, meat and fish vendors, and was animated by the chatter of sellers and customers.
Over time, Piazzetta Annonaria has undergone a series of transformations but has preserved its historical charm intact. Today it hosts cultural events, exhibitions, markets, presentations, and initiatives promoted by local associations.
