The Mandara family, from Salerno, manages the pizzeria Marechiaro since 1964: in the same building there was a trattoria called «Alle due vecchie». Federico Mandara, founder of the Paduan branch, is currently assisted by his sons Giulio and Giovanni. At the 80 seats of the trattoria & pizzeria Marechiaro, in a welcoming and courteous atmosphere, are served pizzas and typical southern specialities, including exquisite desserts and homemade pasta.
Right in the historical centre of Padua, Marechiaro reserves pleasant surprises not only related to food. Over the course of a renovation, the vaulted ceiling, with unplastered bricks, was recovered. It is theorized that in medieval times, this was part of a narrow porticoed street accessing Via dei Soncin. The stock room shouldhave been, instead, a former abattoir; an outlook which seems to be supported by the ancient name of the street, Beccalerie (dialectal form for “butcheries.”)
