Immersed in the greenery of the Montello Forest, the Ristorante Alle Betulle is a venue rich in history. Established as a summer residence for Venetian nobles, it overlooks the point where the Piave River almost touches the scenic road that connects Nervesa della Battaglia to Crocetta del Montello, right above the front line wanted by H.R.H. Vittorio Emanuele III, which started from Cava Zuccherina (Jesolo) and ended at the Adamello, created with the intention of blocking the enemy advance, which at the end of 1917 had breached the Italian front at Caporetto. It was here in June 1918 that the battle, which would later prove decisive for the outcome of the conflict, “The Battle of the Solstice,” took place.
To witness the 7 days of clashes, the King stayed in the place that fifty years later would become Ristorante Alle Betulle. Afterward, the building was donated to the diocese, which turned it into an elementary school, and even today some students from that time come here to recover old memories. In 1968, the elementary school was moved to the center of Ciano, and the building was put up for sale. That’s when our story began: it was purchased by the Toso family, who turned it into a restaurant. Initially starting with “soppressa, polenta, and mushrooms,” our cuisine has evolved and innovated, while maintaining the quality of homemade products.
The restaurant is among the founding members of “Montello a Tavola,” an Association of Restaurateurs of Montello aimed at promoting the territory and the typical cuisine of Veneto and Treviso.
