The Abbey of Santa Bona, built in 1106, represents an invaluable gem for Vidor. Inhabited by the Benedictines of Pomposa, it stands on a strategic site where a ferry crossing over the Piave operated for centuries. The chapel contains the relics of the Egyptian Saint Bona and a fresco of Saint Christopher, the patron of ferrymen. The monks introduced innovative techniques to make the land more productive and transformed the monastery into an economic power capable of providing help to individuals and support to the community in times of famine, epidemics, and disasters. The abbey also played a fundamental role during the Great War: before the defeat of Caporetto, it hosted a military hospital with five hundred beds. It was later almost completely destroyed. The cloister, which remains intact, features pointed arches on columns with meticulously crafted capitals and an extraordinary fresco depicting Virgin, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Jerome.
