Vescovado Vecchio

The building that was once the bishop's palace has its origins in the distant 1300s, when the Dominican Frà Benvenuto, then bishop of Adria, commissioned it. The structure then fell into neglect until, in 1608, Bishop Carlo Labia began a remarkable renovation work that led to the construction of the double-ramped staircase and the addition of multiple decorative elements. In 1788, Bishop Arnaldo Aperoni delgi Alvarotti commissioned the arrangement of the interiors and a chapel that remained almost unchanged. In 1942, the bishopric moved to a more modern location, built a few meters further ahead, in front of the current State Archive palace, and for many years it has housed the middle school attached to the Francesco Venezze Conservatory.
