The small church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Blood of Re, in honor of the homonymous Sanctuary located in the municipality of Re in the province of Verbania, Piedmont.
The miraculous episode that the church is named after occurred on April 29, 1494, when a certain Giovanni Zuccono, having left the village inn of Vigezzino (Verbania), upset after losing at gambling, arrived at dusk in front of the entrance portico of the ancient church of San Maurizio.
Under the portico, the image of the Madonna with Child was painted: Zuccono, in a fit of rage, threw a stone at the forehead of the Virgin Mary, and from the wound, blood began to flow, which continued to pour out until May 18 of the following year.
The worship was brought to the Hills of Bregonze towards the end of the 1800s by Giovanni Fontana of Carrè, who at the time had visited the place where the event took place. The small church was built between 1895 and 1897: from that year onward, on April 29, the festival is solemnly celebrated in the locality of Marola.
On the occasion of the Jubilee of 1950, since the first image of the Virgin had become "miserable due to age," it was replaced with a new effigy, the work of the sculptor from Schio, Guido Cremasco.
For a century now, the community of Marola has lovingly cared for the church of Our Lady of the Blood, a symbol of faith and identity for Chiuppano and for this charming hilltop village.
