Marmolada, la Regina delle Dolomiti

The Mount Marmolada is the highest peak of the Dolomites Unesco World Heritage, with its 3343 metres of altitude. Despite its rock is not composed of a dolomitic matrix because it is calcareous rock, it is considered part of the sistem 2 of the Dolomites World Heritage. This mountain preserves accurately a precious element: one of the last glaciers of the whole Alps. The glacier generated also a lake, known as Fedaia Lake, originated from the pure and transparent water coming from the mountain. The Mount Marmolada is also a famous place to practice lots of sport activities, both in winter and in summer season. There are a lot of mountaineering routes on its south face, but there are also some ways to reach Punta Penia, the highest peak. The ski mountaineering lovers can find in Marmolada lots of amazing traks on a good amount of fresh snow. For whom who prefer the alpine skiing, the longest slope of the entire Dolomiti Superski carousel is from Punta Rocca to Malga Ciapela and its name is "La Bellunese" :a must to do at least one time in the Dolomites.
