The Cathedral was built in 1303. In 1744 it was demolished because it was too narrow and rebuilt in 1758. It was subsequently enlarged in 1884 according to a project by the abbot and by architect Gottardi. Gottardi also restored the façade in Renaissance style.
The church has a single nave with Baroque altars and fine paintings. The most important alterpiece is by Francesco Morone, Verona’s most illustrious painter in the 16th century, and by the artists: Farinati (16th century), Cignaroli (18th century), Ugolini (19th century), Nalin (19th century), Mattielli (20th century).
The prized wood statue sculptured by Paolo Cahanpsa dates from 1553 and represents the Holy Savior. We also find, recently restored, a majestic and lovely organ, built in 1889 by the Englishman George Trice.
