Chiesa di San Vito

St. Vito's Church

Via San Vito, 32 , Legnago - 37045

St. Vito's Church, dedicated to Modesto and Crescenzia too, is an old oratory with a single nave.

Its facade presents twelfth century Romanesque elements, like the original central mullioned window. A small rose-window is also noteworthy; the rectangular windows don't belong to the original structure, as they were added at a later time.

In the seventeenth century the church interior was changed: niches for the altars were included in the side walls and a new Baroque presbytery was added, whereas the old Romanesque apse was placed underground. Hardly recognizable traces of frescoes came to light on the left wall, down towards the altar, yet they might date back to the Gothic period. The bell tower dates back to the same period too.
