At the beginning of the nineteenth century Montagnana had more than 5,000 inhabitants, and the old Teatro della Loggia by now proved insufficient for the needs of a community in turmoil, passionate about "bel canto". Thus was born the "Società del Teatro", and the new Social Theater was built near Porta Legnago on a project by the architect Giovanni Menegoni.
The chronicles of the time remember him as magnificent, with a horseshoe shape, three orders with 19 boxes each, an audience, an orchestra and a very large stage, as well as a very luxurious foyèr on the upper floor. Having survived management changes and periods of crisis, in 1938 the theater was converted into a cinema, then taking the name of the owner Branzo.
Since the 1980s, the cinema has definitively closed its doors. Today, even though it is not in an optimal state of conservation, this building is actually one of the most important testimonies of Montagnana's recent past.
