Palazzina Santini

Palazzina Santini

Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, 26 , Montagnana (PD) - 35044

Among the splendid noble architectures that close the northern side of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the Palazzina Santini emerges, a building that is particularly significant for its decorative, symbolic and allegorical apparatus which can be traced back to the Risorgimento era.

The palace, probably of Renaissance layout, belonged to the illustrious astronomer Giovanni Santini around the mid-nineteenth century. In 1860, Antonio Caregaro Negrin, an architect from Vicenza, was entrusted with the task of renovating the house, both internally and externally. His work particularly interested the ground floor, with the opening of three elegant arches on pillars.

The effigies of Mazzini and Garibaldi are set in the pendentives of the central arch; to these, in a vertical line, correspond the smiling portraits of the Santini couple. To celebrate the patriotic ideals of the owners also contribute the plasters, based on the colors green, white and red, typical of the Italian flag.
