Palazzo Lombardesco

Palazzo Magnavin Foratti - Lombardesco

Via Matteotti 40 , Montagnana - 35044

The facade of this building, dating back to the fifteenth century, is embellished with a central mullioned window on the main floor, a rich decorated entrance gate and fine decorations in soft stone. On the front of the building and under the large portico with three arches, portions of frescoes are still visible. The elements and the architectural style here marked by the noble residences overlooking the Grand Canal in Venice.

Well-founded hypotheses suggest that this building was owned by Erasmo da Narni, a leader known as the Gattamelata: the Serenissima would have given him this valuable building as a reward for the military contribution given to the Venetian troops.

It is also documented that Giacoma da Leonessa, wife of Gattamelata, lived for many years in Montagnana, the city where she died in 1466; it is not to be excluded that she lived right inside this magnificent lagoon-style building.
