The oldest document known today that mentions the Church of San Francesco di Montagnana is a papal concession to the minor friars dating back to 1350. However, some typical elements of the Romanesque architecture present on the façade can lead us to assume that the building is much older.
After a restoration that took place in the 1960s, a group of Clarisse nuns, an order dedicated to a devoted seclusion, were welcomed into the adjacent monastery. With their entry, perpetual adoration was also established in the church.
Inside, above the entrance gate, a majestic loggia houses an eighteenth-century Callido organ, while in an area along the left aisle you can admire fragments of fourteenth-century frescoes. Behind the main altar, of considerable artistic value, is an altarpiece with the Madonna and Child and Saints John the Baptist, Marco, Francesco and Zeno made by Palma the Younger.
